Connecting Xero to Power Bi through Accounting Bi

How to connect Xero to Power Bi Desktop 

Follow the following process: 

  • Launch Power Bi Desktop. 
  • Navigate to 'Get Data' tab and click. 

  • From the Get Data popup window, select 'Web' to highlight it. You can type the word in the search filter in the popup window to ease access. 

  • Click 'Connect'. 

  • A pop-up window will appear. Click on the tiny circle next to 'Advanced' to select Advanced Settings. 

  • From your dashboard, click 'My Bearer Token.' 

  • Copy the 'API URL.' 

  • Go back to Power Bi desktop and paste the URL under 'URL parts.' 

 

  • Type the word Authorization (must be the US spelling) in the 'HTTP Request Header Parameters' section – the box on the left. 

  • Type 'Bearer' (with a capital letter 'B') and remember to leave a space after typing it.

  • Go back to your Accounting Bi account to get the 'bearer token', then copy the token link.

  • Paste your token to the 'HTTP Request Header Parameters' section in Power Bi – the box on the right. 

Click 'Ok' to allow Power Bi to start communicating with the Accounting Bi API and begin loading data. 

  • The next screen will show you the reports that you had already queried from Xero through Accounting Bi. 

  • From the reports window of your choice, click on the two arrows that are pointing in opposite directions. 

  • From the drop-down menu, select Expand to New Rows. 

  • Click on the two arrows that are pointing in opposite directions. 

  • You will see your data columns in the subsequent drop down. 

  • Click OK. 

  • Click the Close & Apply drop down menu and select Close & Apply.
